Today's success was getting home from work before 8pm. Mind you, it was 7.45, but we'll take it when we can get it. I've already billed nearly 30 hours since Monday. Which means I only need to put in another 5 to be 'fully utilised' this week. I have a sneaking suspicion we're going to pass that mark...

You know what show I actually really enjoy? Reaper. It runs on E4 here, although it seems a bit like CW material in the States. I dunno. I appreciate its silliness and good-natured humour. I'm sure you're all too cool to have seen or have enjoyed it, but that's all right. When I want to feel cool, I just have to walk out my front door into the New York Times's new favourite 'hood, Hackney. Which isn't such a bad deal.

Oh, about MGMT. I read, also in the Times, them described as 'experimental'. But then I listened to half their album this morning before I went to the office, and they were sort of like New Order meets Arcade Fire. Which, I'm sorry, is Not That Experimental. I liked them and all, but I expected them to make me uncomfortable with my limited range of taste because they were 'out there'. No.

But, on the subject of music, if we could note my favourite single of the moment... ladies and gentlemen, 'Fascination':
It's like a Gap advert filled with adorable Danes singing infectious Scandi-pop. Amazing. (The other day it came on while I was in the gym, on the treadmill, and I felt like I could possibly run for the rest of the night so long as those Alphabeat kids didn't stop singing. True story. Promise.)

Also on music: Jason Mraz is apparently the new Jack Johnson. And Jewel's gone country (again). And Nadine gets off to a bit of a rough start, but the Aloud successfully remember the choreography from their video. (Well done, ladies! You're all looking great. Yes, even you, Kimberley.)

Last up: lately I feel I'm supposed to have a tumblr (or a tumble or an [insert proper noun here to describe tumblring for you]) to be au courant on the blogging tip. Am I? I can barely get motivated to write anything here. But I don't want to let the side down. Ya know?

When I went to buy my copy of that Vampire Weekend album that everyone loves to hate, the girl behind the counter was all, "have you heard of MGMT? Personally, I prefer their album more than [the Vampire Weekend album] and I think you'd like it." I graciously acknowledged her recommendation and then went home and watched a couple of their videos On Demand. I thought they sounded like a weird mash-up of !!!, Of Montreal and Scissor Sisters.

I have to say that as much as Vampire Weekend are Talking Heads reincarnate, I actually do like them. Of course they're sort of precious, but who that's 20 isn't?

Reaper is totally on The CW! Ha. But I like it for what it's worth. *shrug*

There's also something about how almost every episode starts with/has him him shirtless. Ha.

You have to know by now that there's nothing I'm too cool for. Reaper is good fun. Even if it's pretty clunky sometimes. But that's part of its charm.

I don't know where it is in the American run, but on tonight's episode, Sam handed over the necklace to a tearful Andi. 'Well, wear as something other than a friend', he said. 'Boo hoo hoo', she said.

POOR SAM.

EXCUSE ME, that article makes a clear distinction between Hackney (where *I* live) and Shoreditch (where *you* live) which is getting too expensive because of all the businessmen moving in.

Tumblr
The good thing about Tumblr though, is that you can just fill it with feeds from all your other sites, and it does the work itself - genius!!

I need a job while I'm there, so if you have any ideas please please please let me know.

Yes, Alphabeat.
Okay, I'm really excitied about seeing people while I'm in London. I will not have official work permits but I did want to find an under the table job or something. I was just wondering if you knew how easy that may or may not be. I'll work at a farm if I have to. I just need money. Enough money to eat.

I guess your best bet would be working at a pub or some other independent service-industry job. But since anyone in Europe can seek work legally, I'm not sure how many opportunities there are for people without proper papers. I guess you'll find out when you get here.
